Elvis served in the US Army with the 3rd Armored Division in Friedberg, Germany from 1st Oct 1958 until 2nd Mar 1960. He also learned Karate while in the Army.

His first movie was actually slated to be called The Reno Brothers, but due to brisk sales of Love Me Tender, the movie was renamed to the same title.

Elvis was introduced to the Grand Ole Opry by Hank Snow, who wanted Elvis to open for him. It was also thru Hank Snow that Elvis met Col Tom Parker, who ended up managing both Hank Snow and Elvis at the same time.

Elvis was born as an identical twin to brother Jesse Garon, who was stillborn.

His first stage appearance was at a Country Fair singing Old Shep, where he won second prize. He had to stand on a chair to reach the mic.

When That's Alright Mama was released, most people thought Elvis was black, and many which disc jockeys refused to play Elvis Presley songs based on this assumption.

Even Frank Sinatra had harsh words about Elvis, saying "His kind of music is deplorable, a rancid smelling aphrodisiac. It fosters almost totally negative and destructive reactions in young people."

Graceland, located in Memphis TN, was purchased in 1957 and became home to the King until his death in 1977.

He called his performance on the Steve Allen Show the worst performance of his career as Allen had him typecast with so many restrictions that even Elvis's band complained the next day.

Elvis was paid $50,000 for 3 appearances on the Ed Sullivan show ... which was unheard of back then.

He saw a group in Las Vegas called Freddie Bell and The Bellboys and adopted their version of Hound Dog as his own.

A judge in Jacksonville Florida threatened to arrest Presley if he did any on stage gyrations or hip shaking during a concer there. The Police even filmed his concert. Elvis only wiggled his finger in defiance.
