Bucks Song History

Tiger By The Tail

Loves Gonna Live Here Again
This catchy tune became a #1 hit for Buck back in 1963.

Buck Facts

Buck's real name was Alvis Edgar Owens Jr. Buck announced to his family in Sherman Texas when he was just 3 or 4 years old that he wanted to be called Buck ... and so he was.

Buck hailed from Bakersfield California and the sound that he and fellow guitarist Don Rich created was called, "The Bakersfield Sound". Buck discovered Bakersfield while diving truck, and he and his wife settled there in 1950.

The death of Don Rich from a motorcycle accident in 1974 basically brought Buck and his career to a 14 year halt. The death of his best friend had a crippling effect on Buck due to a long struggle with depression.

Buck co-hosted the long running show "Hee-Haw" with Roy Clarke and also played as a backup session musician for Tennessee Ernie For, Sonny James, Faron Young and others.

Dwight Yoakam help re-started Bucks career in 1988 and helped Buck with his first #1 in 16 years with the release of "Streets Of Bakersfield"

He had his favorite meal just hrs before and was going to skip that nights performance on 25th Mar 2006 because he wasn't feeling well. But fans who told him they had driven all the way from Oregon to Bakersfield to see him, caused Buck to give them his (unknown) last performance.

Buck died on 26th March 2006 at the age of 76 in his sleep from a heart attack.
